THE EAST ASIAN AESTHETIC AND CONTEMPORARY PRINTS

National College of Arts hosted an exhibition titled, The East Asian Aesthetic and Contemporary Prints on Tuesday, 1st March 2022.

Mr. Iwasaki Ryuji, Consular, Embassy of Japan was the guest of honor for the event. The show was curated by Sabah Husain in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Foundation which reflected the ideas of beauty, aesthetics, and art-making through an Eastern lens.

The exhibition brought together East Asian narratives from China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, India, and Pakistan. The works comprised mainly of Prints, exploring techniques of printmaking and traditional paper making. The show was indeed a happening event where faculty, students, and people from different backgrounds were welcomed keeping in view the Covid SOPs.

The curator Sabah Hussain stated that the ideas of history and tradition as they integrated throughout this region have been discussed through this exhibit and the aim is to bring this dialogue into contemporary times.

VC Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri also appreciated the exhibition and mentioned that it is significant to address the difference between how the east views its ideas of aesthetics and traditions which the Lahore Arts Foundation is trying to address. He also said that NCA has always encouraged such initiatives and shall continue to do so in the future as well.

The show will be on view till 20th March 2022.
