The Jacquard Journey is a celebration of textile innovation and artistic expression, featuring a collection of intricate jacquard woven fabrics designed by students of the Textile Design Department. Produced in collaboration with Kohinoor Mills Ltd, this exhibition pays homage to the revolutionary invention of the Jacquard loom, introduced in the early 19th century by Joseph Marie Jacquard, which transformed the textile industry by enabling the weaving of complex patterns through a system of punch cards, a precursor to modern computing. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri, at the Tollinton Block, National College of Arts.
Drawing inspiration from a rich array of themes and cultural motifs, each fabric on display embodies a meticulous interplay of structure and design. Presented in their raw, undyed state, these weaves highlight the purity of form and craftsmanship, offering a tactile experience of texture and technique.
These unfinished pieces act as open invitations -blank canvases awaiting the infusion of color and interpretation. Merging industrial precision, imaginative design, and your personal vision, The Jacquard Journey invites you to explore a realm of endless creative possibilities.
