Esteemed faculty member and head of the Ceramic Design Department, Shazia Mirza recently visited The International Ceramics Studio in Hungary and the HOF Art Space in Bangkok, Thailand where she worked and produced a body of work during her stay. This work has now been presented in the form of an exhibition at Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery in NCA under the title of “TRIAD-Travel-Probe-Make”. The exhibition consists of sketches and complete pieces of contemporary ceramic jewellery. The inauguration of this event took place on Wednesday, 21st September 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery at National College of Arts, Lahore. Principal NCA Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri inaugurated the exhibition. The work demonstrates both experimentation and versatility within ceramic design by questioning and exploring the possibilities of both form and material. It is also testament to the fact that in the contemporary world today, the realms of art and design not only intersect but often merge to bring forth new ideas. Principal NCA Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri praised the work saying that many of these works convey a novel understanding of how traditional designs and motifs can be reinvented and adapted to suit contemporary design requirements.
